Rabindranath Tagore (nicknamed "Rabi") was born in the Jorasanko mansion in Calcutta to Debendranath Tagore (1817–1905) and Sarada Devi. Tagore was raised mostly by servants; hismother had died in his early childhood. At the age of sixteen, he wrote his first poem. Tagore wrote novels, essays, short stories, travelogues, dramas, and thousands of songs. Of Tagore wrote eight novels and four novellas.he also got nobel prize in 1913 for gitanjali. He was awarded a knighthood by King George V, but renounced it after the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

Shantiniketan is a small town near Bolpur in the Birbhum district of West Bengal approximately 200 kms from Kolkata (formerly Calcutta).Shantiniketan was earlier called Bhubandanga (named after Bhuban Dakat, a local dacoit), and was owned by the Tagore family. In 1863, Maharshi Devendranath Tagore founded an 'Ashram' here in 1863.



Classes are held under the trees,He believed in open air education and had reservations about any teaching done within four walls. This was due to his belief that walls represent conditioning of mind.


On December 22nd 1901, Rabindranath Tagore started a school at Santiniketan .He used to teach in gurukul style,under the tree. In 1921 ,the school was expanded into a university. It was renamed Visva Bharati, which means the communion of the world with India. He contributed his Nobel Prize monies and staffed the school and here teaching was often done under trees. . Visva Bharati, now more than a hundred years old, is one of the most prestigious universities of India

The Shantiniketan campus has artistic sculptures, murals, frescoes and paintings of Rabindranath, Nandalal Bose, Ramkinkar, Binodbehari Mukhopadhyay, and others.The festival of dol ( festival of colors) is celebrated with pomp and show.

We would like to inform you that this is a long journey trip(a bit wearing) however you will enjoy the rural scenic beauty of Bengal on the way.
We pick you up from the hotel or from the nodal point and start the tour at 7 am and we will reach there at approx 5 hrs.
Tour includes:- AC Car/ coach,English speaking guide,Entry fee,Packed water,Tea,parking charge, Toll charge, including all taxes.
Tour Does not include:- Food, travel insurance and tipping.
Please Note:- 1. Ashram remains closed on Tuesday( half day),Wednesday(full day).
                         2.  In the month of may, june university remains closed.
                         3. You may carry food as it is very difficult to find  hygienic restaurant/eateries at                                    rural area.
                         4. Let’s meet up tours does not hold responsible if the trip is interrupted/cancelled due to road blockage/weather conditions.
